** GET CHARGED FOR CONTACTING PENINSULA REMOVAL SERVICES! **

This is not the website of Peninsula Removal Services. We thought about using them for our move - and they charged us R52,780!! They did not come and and see us - they did not do any work for us - and we have debt collectors on our back for R52,780 - read on to learn more!

END EDIT

We were moving within Cape Town so phoned around for moving quotes. Some companies gave us quotes on the phone - some came out and quoted. Peninsula Removal Services did not come out - they just quoted over the phone.

We decided to go with Peter Melck Removals as they came out, looked and inventoried everything - and gave us the best quote.

Paul from Peninsula Removals contacted on 21 April 2008 and asked why we were not going with his company. We explained that Peter Melck had come out, looked at what we had and given a far, far better price.

Paul begged to be allowed to come and look and quote again - literally begged - so we said OK.

The day he was due to quote (22 April 2008) he phoned to ask for our ID numbers - which we said we were not happy to give to him.

He then phoned and asked my wife for her date of birth - which she said she would not give him. He got very exasperated and rude and asked what he was supposed to use as a reference now!?!

Lets summarise here: We got quotes, made a selection, let that person know. Finished. Done.  Then - because we felt sorry for Paul - agreed to let him come and try to requote. He had already sent a quote but now felt he could not give us another quote (that we did not really want) without an ID number!

We discussed this briefly (20 seconds or so) and then phoned him back to cancel. He said OK - goodbye - and then phoned back again almost immediately. This time he sounded very sorry for himself and wanted to know why we did not want to use him.

We explained, patiently, that we were uncomfortable with his being so demanding and insistent about having personal details he did not need, that we were not going to deal with someone that we were not comfortable with and that we were happy with whom we had originally decided upon - at a far better price!

And so the end of that - or so we thought.

We got a bill in the post on 24 April - 3 days later.

about his unlawful business practices)

Does anyone ever take any of this seriously? received complaints

I ignored him...

Then on 20 January 2009 I got a call from a chap called Daniel who represents a collection agency called "Collect Online". They are based in Durban. He was phoning to notify that he has been instructed to collect the debt from us.

He is unable to explain how the debt has been incurred, has no paperwork as regards the debt and does not have a physical address or ID number for Paul. In fact all he has is a name, a cell phone number and a figure!

It was at this stage that I thought I would spend 20 minutes throwing together a quick site to let other potential users of Paul's company know what they may be letting themselves in for.

I have also since discovered that Paul's name may or may not be Paul De Kwaadstening, that Peninsula Removal Services is not a registered company or closed corporation in South Africa, that there is no physical address listed for them anywhere and that we are not the first people to be subject to his unique style.

If you have anything to add or have had the misfortune to have dealt with Paul or Peninsula Removal Services in the past (or not dealt with them!) then please let me know!
